Muriel Lake:
This once pristine lake has lost over four meters of water and it is our belief that the lake environment may be negatively impacted by people, industry and roadways. A detailed and in-depth study is required to determine if this is the case. Although other lakes in the area are showing considerable recovery from the past drought, Muriel Lake continues to decline with no sign of future improvement.
The Muriel Lake Basin Management Society is working to determine the cause of the water loss with the hope that Muriel Lake can be saved before it is too late. We sincerely believe that the people of this province cannot sit by idly while Muriel Lake’s water quantity and quality continue to decline. It is now in the state where there is no longer fish due to low water and oxygen levels.
