We had the opportunity to spend some time with Lica for this really unique program.
Xstream science is a program that educates students about water quality and testing in their local streams and greater watersheds.
While out testing water samples, they captured a picture of a very young bald eagle. (How Cool!)
This year for our annual general meeting we decided to hold it at Muriel Lake MD Park.
We had a great turn out!

Our annual highway cleanup will take place this year on Saturday June 20th. Volunteers needed! Meet at #56 Elk Road at 9:00 am for tailgate safety meeting and COVID guidelines from the MD. Please remember to practice social distancing at all times. Volunteers will individually drive to assigned section of highway to pick up garbage from roadside. Covid 19 restrictions apply. Please wear gloves and closed toe footwear; safety vest will be provided. This will take about 2 hours. Minors/Children are permitted with a supervising adult. This is a major MLBMS fundraising event. Due to COVID there will be no lunch served after.
MLBMS volunteers sampled the dissolved oxygen levels at the deepest point in the lake 4 times this winter. This is the second year MLBMS has measured dissolved oxygen over the winter. The results show, that while oxygen levels again dropped below the level necessary for fish to survive, the levels did not drop as low as last year. The increase in lake level since last year may be the reason for the higher oxygen levels. The lake level has risen since last fall and hopefully a good spring runoff will continue the trend. Thanks to LICA for lending us the measurement equipment and to Erin Ritchie of LICA for writing up the results and to Don, John Dale and Richard for their participation and work.
